Albania’s President Ilir Meta has returned this Friday to his weekly press conferences where he expressed his concern regarding the hottest topics such as vacancies in the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court asking for their completion and functioning as soon as possible in line with the constitution of the country.
The head of state reacted harshly to the majority’s initiative on the organic law which framed president’s powers threatening to dissolve parliament even before the April 25th elections.
According to him, the majority is incapable of dismissing him, which has been proven by the failed parliamentary commission set up for this purpose.
“There is no unconstitutional law by an unconstitutional parliament that prevents the president from fulfilling his mission in defense of free and fair elections. The majority has tried it with the president; the result has been 3 to 0 all the times it has gone to Venice,” President Meta told the Socialist majority.
In additin he said that the majority has an obligation to create an equal and free environment for all political actors to express themselves, just as it has a great responsibility for free and fair elections as required by the conditions for membership in the European Union and OSCE / ODIHR recommendations. /argumentum.al
