1.Chancellor Merz “passed the exam”! This could sound strange, but the meeting in the White House on 5 June with President Trump was indeed a hard political exam for German Chancellor Merz! As a former diplomat in Berlin and thanks to my German, I have followed attentively the stress, TV programs and several question marks there on the intensive preparations of “ Student Merz”” in his first month as Chancellor with his unpredictable “ Professor Trump ”. That’s why, before leaving for Washington, Chancellor Merz phoned his counterparts in Paris, London, Rome and President Zelenski after that scandalous meeting in the Oval Office on 28 February and listened their suggestions on the proper caution and tactics. He also talked with psychologists and body language experts up to the point of how to perfectly say “ Thank you” Merz closest associates spent many sleepless nights figuring out the different scenarios in the White House and different ways out. Merz had also taken a rich garderobe with 16 different suits for any eventuality and other things.
Actually, Merz was very lucky. On the day of their meeting, it was announced the break off between Trump and Musk. On the other hand, Trump’s gesture to accomodate Merz at the presidential Guest House “Blair” boded well for that “ exam” The best moving introduction in their meeting was certainly the gift from Merz, the original birth certificate of Trump’s grandfather, who bore the same name as the Chancellor, Friderich but turned into Frederik in USA. Besides, like Trump, Merz had also worked for 10 years as a businessman with US companies; so he knows business and Trump appreciates that. Adding here that thanks to his good English and as a sign of trust Merz did not take an interpreter. And Trump showed his appreciation for the German accent of Merz English.
Meanwhile, thanks to his “ revolution” in the field of defence, proclaiming that Germany would be the greatest military power soon in Europe and the fulfillment of the promise to spend 5 per cent of its GDP for NATO, Merz had already succesfuly passed that exam.
Merz was free from mistakes; this is also thanks to the fact that during the 45 minute meeting, he spoke only 4 minutes, due to the incessant Trump’s monologue. Merz passed with elegence also the tactless Trump’s interference on the famous military landing in Normandie, calling it “ a bad day for the Germans”; expressing his gratitude for the USA for liberating Germany, adding that it is also in its hands to end the war in Ukraine. Accepting Merz invitation to visit Germany was certainly the “cherry on the pie” of that meeting. So Merz “passed the exam” with a briliant mark. As to the substance of their meeting, the war in Ukraine, the crisis in Middle east, import tariffs and others, that counted a little in that meeting. Decisive was the form, the fact that Merz did quite well, avoiding any incident and keeping in good terms at least for the time being. However, experts warn Merz that next time he should meet Trump not just to receive the “exam certificate” but with visible contents and achievements; however, this needs a much stronger Germany in economic, political and military terms.
2.Political stupidity is indeed what is happening in official Pristina. Even the 32nd round of elections for the Parliamentary Speaker failed “with success”! Without any further chance except political frustration, “ drawing the rope” and scenarios beyond the reality there. Before we have called this a political shame, but now it is indeed political stupidity. Moreover, this si occurring at the point of time when Kosovo wants to join the Council of Europe, start EU accession negotiations and others. When it lacks the most vital elements of democracy and Euro-Atlantic principles – the spirit of tolerance, concessions, compromise and all – party consensus. But without these necessary components, all others are NIL. It goes beyond doubt that the one to blame for this is the governmental majority which is insisting more than a mule to approve the same candidacy vehemently objected by opposition.
This does not occur even in the most backward african states. What a nice gift for Belgrade from Kosovo leadership. They could say, hey, look, they are not able to elect even their speaker, how can they come to terms with us, whatever we do? Ironially, President Osmani with her shuttle diplomacy is not realizing that the greatest evil lies inside Kosovo and not abroad!
Time is up to put an end to this unprecedented political stupidity!
3. 5 per cent or study Russian! This was the ultimatum that the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte gave in a meeting in London on 5 June and in Rome on 10 June to the Foreign Ministers of the format Vajmar+. To necessarily fulfil the 5 per cent of their GDP for NATO: otherwise, he said that they could have social state and modern logistics, but they should study Russian! Refering in this way to the reliable forecasts on the possibility of a Russian attack even aganist another NATO Member State after they finish business with Ukraine. This ultimatum preceeds the NATO Summit in the Hague on 24/25 June and the EU on 30 June.
4. The firing East! This is how the Middle East is named after the large-scale military operation that Israel launched in the night of 12 June against the major strategic military bases in Iran, with well-known effects, including the destruction of the largest nuclear station in Natan.
Israel is on is own self-defence right, when it is known that Iran has proclaimed its major target of wiping Israel out. Tel Aviv is making use of weakening Iran, the losses of Huths and Hisbullah, the destruction of its air defence last year and the lack of prospects in the talks between USA and Iran. However, now it is required the diplomatic intervention in order to avert the further escalation of the situation with effects on the whole region and beyond.
The next major concern relates to the negative impact on Ukraine, whose support could be left in shade. This is likely to happen even in the G – 7 Summit in Canada ( 14 – 15 June) and the NATO Summit in the Hague ( 24/25 June).
