TIRANA – In a comment on the reaction of the united opposition and president regarding the voting of parliamentary law committee on open electoral lists and the ban of pre-electoral coalitions, PM Edi Rama said in a press conference on Wednesday that the Socialist Party (SP) has confirmed the full seriousness in the implementation of the June 5 agreement.
According to Rama, the constitutional initiative had the full consensus of SP and parliamentary opposition in Tuesday’s vote.
“The reaction of the extra-parliamentary and presidential opposition to this constitutional initiative is unacceptable ethically, politically or nationally,” said Rama.
“We will discuss with the parliamentary opposition the details of the constitutional initiative and their integration in the electoral code,” said Rama who insisted that the agreement with the extra-parliamentary opposition will not be affected.
In a tit-for-tat reaction the DP responded to Rama with regard to the heated debate on the constitutional changes in the frame of the electoral reform.
DP Secretary General Gazment Bardhi said on Wednesday that the statement of Rama according to which the open lists will not affect the coalition is a lie because, as Bardhi said, the PM aims at banning the pre-electoral coalitions.
“With the constitutional changes Rama erases the term coalition. Rama cheated when he said that the coalitions are not affected by the open lists. This unilateral interference in the Constitution violates the agreement of June 5,” said Bardhi. /argumentum.al
