TIRANA, June 3 – Albania’s Speaker Lindita Nikolla received on Friday the delegation of the European Parliament (EP), headed by Isabel Santos, EP rapporteur for Albania as well as MEP Andreas Schieder, said a statement released by the press office of Parliament.
Nikolla thanked Santos for her work and the reflection in the European Parliament of the transformative, democratizing and integrating achievements of Albania and especially for the contribution to the decision of the European Parliament for the opening of Negotiations and the holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference with Albania. Speaker says despite delays
“We have worked hard to achieve this, but you have worked hard to support our achievements in the European Parliament and we are very grateful to you. Despite the delays, we are committed to advancing the European agenda and European integration remains our top priority,” said Nikolla.
For her part the EP Rapporteur for Albania, Isabel Santos said that Albania is a trusted and committed strategic partner of the EU.
“The EP decision was a fair decision. Albania has continued the fundamental reforms related to the EU and it is right that the Council agrees to open the delayed negotiations with Albania,” said Santos.
The conversation focused on the most important political developments in the country. Evaluating the progress so far, the MEPs underlined that it is important for Albania and the Parliament to continue the work for the advancement of the reforms as well as the fulfillment of all the recommendations of the progress report. /Argumentum.al
