TIRANA, September 10 – The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has again touched upon the issue of opening the files of ‘Sigurimi’ (comunist state security) after the follow up move of the Files Authority related to the public announcement that a senior politician with the initials I.M was an associate of the State Security.
During the meeting with the mayor of the Municipality of Presevo in Serbia, Shqiprim Arifi, Veliaj said that the generation of politicians from the 80s and 90s still have a lot to settle and cannot be a solution for the future of the country.
“We are learning some lessons from the past and we are not making some mistakes anymore. Our grandparents’ generation, even in Albania, are still clarifying who was a communist, who was a security agent and who was a spy. It is not this generation that will give us the solutions to the future. That generation still has accounts to pay for the 80s and 90s,” said Veliaj.
The.Mayor said his generation that does not have this burden, that does not have this implication, will have to make some bold decisions to move forward. /Argumentum.al
