TIRANA, September 13 – Serbs in the Republic of Kosovo have many rights guaranteed by the Constitution, both in parliamentary representation and in executive power, while Albanians and other minorities in Serbia do not have them, has said Shaip Kamberi, the Chairman of the Party for Democratic Action from the Presevo Valley and the only Albanian deputy in the Parliament of Serbia.
The Parliament of Serbia held on Tuesday a special session on the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina where Kamberi emphasized that Kosovo is independent from Serbia and that the Serbian authorities must do everything they want to achieve there in agreement with the local authorities.
Serbia has no influence whoever is in power in Kosovo, Kamberi told Serb deputies in Belgrade.
According to him, the final agreement between Serbia and Kosovo is one of the most difficult challenges; the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic has been elected to lead the country and find solutions to the most difficult political issues.
Kamberi noted that it is Vucic’s obligation to lead Serbia towards solutions that create a European perspective for them. Kamberi, who won his mandate after five rounds of elections repeated because of Serbs’ manipulation, emphasized that improving relations with the “eternal enemy” requires the ability to reconcile. He said that “there is no reconciliation without facing the past”, therefore Serbia needs peace with the Albanians for the future of its citizens and the perspective of the Western Balkans.
Kamberi addressed Vucic telling him that as the man who leads Serbia he has the greatest responsibility to tell the citizens of Serbia “the truth and only the truth, not empty wishes and unrestrained political ambitions” about Kosovo.
Further he assessed that there is still no atmosphere in Serbia where someone will apologize to the Albanians for what has been done in Kosovo.
Kamberi said that the US unequivocally supports the Brussels dialogue and in his view the recent agreement on documents between Belgrade and Pristina should be used to continue the dialogue until the final normalization of relations. /Argumentum.al
