TIRANA, APRIL 14 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, said that the western capitals are predicting the victory of the opposition in the local elections.
He said in the weekly press conference on Friday that Prime Minister Edi Rama is trying to manipulate public opinion, paying money to survey companies.
“Even if he (Berisha) wins, ” said Escobar, “he predicts my victory.” I appreciate that. I have said that the capitals of Europe and the world are convinced of the strong return of Sali Berisha and the victory of DP,” said Berisha.
In the meantime he said that he had not asked for a change of the US decision to designate him as persona non grata. In a TV interview on Thursday US senior diplomat Escobar said there would not be any change of the US decision on Berisha.
“I have sued the Secretary of State in the Paris court for defamation, which excludes any possibility for me to ask for the change of the decision. It’s just like that. I have not asked to change the decision. I chose this path. I have not done and will not do any lobbying. I chose the court,” he said.
Further Berisha said that he understood that this has aroused anger, but he is a free citizen. “But when the other violates your dignity, there are two ways. Or he apologizes and you see that they didn’t bring any evidence. Not that they didn’t do checks, they did extraordinary checks, but they didn’t find anything.”
In addition, Berisha said that he called on the State Department Inspector General, the FBI and the US Congress to investigate the corrupt affairs of Ambassador Yuri Kim, including her properties in Albania. “I guarantee in the most open way that DP is ready to contribute with evidence and facts in clarifying these problems.
