TIRANA – The deadly respiratory disease keeps spreading unchecked across Albania which registered 82 newly infected cases on Tuesday as compared to 69 a day before, local health authorities said blaming citizens of having no fear of COVID – 19 anymore.
There has been an increase in the number of people affected by Covid-19 which is related to the absence of vigilance and non-implementation of the rules set by the health authorities, said the expert of the Institute of Public Health (ISHP), Marjeta Dervishi on Tuesday.
According to the information provided by her, 364 tests were made and 82 cases were confirmed positive during the last 24 hours. In a detailed way she announced that there were 28 cases in Tirana to be followed by Shkodra and Kruja with 18 and 10 cases respectively. The disease has spread even in areas where there have been no affected people, including southern parts of the country.
“During the last 24 hours, 9 people affected by Covid-19 have recovered, bringing the total number of the recovered people to 1064,” Dervishi said.
In a comment on what is happening with the ‘behavior’ of the virus Rovena Daja, a doctor at ISHP, said in an interview with ATA news agency on Monday that the growth of the infected people is an expression of a lack of fear towards the virus, which has brought about the reduction of the care of the citizens. Tuesday, as she said, registered the highest number of new cases and this has happened because people have not realized that they should change their lifestyle.
“We were fine with figures during the quarantine but as far as I can understand people are not afraid anymore, and I hope very much they will start to have fear for their health and that of their relatives,” she said. “The virus is among us and we should co-live with it as long as there is no vaccine.”
Asked if there can be a decision to return to lockdown, Daja was evasive saying that she hoped that the number of the infected people would drop. “There is never an answer when the number of the infected people doubles,” the health experts said, still expecting that the summer is hope for a reduction of the toll of infected people.
According to her, most of the contaminated people are family contacts but there is an increase of those who were hit by COVID – 19 in private institutions and businesses. She had an advice according to which public and private institutions and businesses should consider the possibility for their employees to work from home when it is possible./argumentum.al
