TIRANA – Austria is a friendly and allied country which supports Albania in the European integration process, has said Speaker Gramoz Ruci.
Ruci made that statement while receiving the Austrian Ambassador, Christian Steiner on the occasion of the beginning of his duty in Tirana on Tuesday. Since some months Mr. Steiner has been Head of Mission in this Balkan country.
The Speaker considered the bilateral relations between Albania and Austria as very good and intensive, and the signing of an agreement between the two parliaments for the establishment of the Democratic Workshop in the Albanian Parliament according to the model of the Austrian Parliament was seen as a result of this friendly atmosphere.
Ruci also expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Steiner for Austria’s continued support for the opening of accession negotiations with the EU, asking Vienna’s support for the holding of the First EU-Albania Intergovernmental Conference during the German EU Presidency in the second half of 2020.
A topic of the conversation was the possibility of increasing Austrian investments in Albania. Ambassador Steiner said that Austria considers Albania one of the favorite countries for cooperation.
Ruci appreciated the Austrian assistance for the reconstruction of the areas hit by the November 26, 2019 earthquake, as well as the support for coping with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. /argumentum.al
