Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about the importance of suspending from duty judges for whom an investigation is launched for violations until the end of the investigation during a meeting held in Dibra about the National Consultation on Saturday.
This issue is one of the questions that the government has decided to discuss with the citizens through the National Counseling.
“What we are saying is that even if no one here has had direct problems with the justice system, he has certainly followed flagrant cases of decision-making, which have reached the point of shocking public opinion. Rulings are made by judges who decide to release serial killers although the convict is sentenced to life imprisonment or 25 years. Or there are cases when sentences are reduced until prisoners get out at all,” Rama said.
The Prime Minister stressed that there are also cases of decisions for flagrant robbery of properties. “These judges have not passed the Vetting and they are in line to pass it and they know that they cannot pass it because they are “sunk to the throat”,” he said.
According to the PM, the law stipulates that if a flagrant violation is found for them, an investigation will be launched by the High Inspectorate of Justice together with the High Judicial Council.
“If it turns out that they have violated the law, they are excluded from the system. But while the investigations continue, they continue to work. The question is whether they should be suspended until the investigation is completed. And this ban is made by these institutions that do the investigation. This is an issue that was discussed even when the justice reform was done and in the end it remained that they are not suspended until the end of the investigation,” said the Prime Minister.
According to him, the data show that these judges or prosecutors are not detained.
“That’s why we are in this dilemma: to make the decision to stop them. This is one of those decisions that we are interested in having the support of citizens,” said the premier. / Argumentum.al
