TIRANA, May 13 – Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi said that everything has been prepared by the Central Election Commission (CEC) for the election process on May 14, while he indicated that there were problems with the voting center commissions due to withdrawals or incomplete documentation submitted.
He made these comments in an interview on a local TV on Saturday. Celibashi touched upon the arrest of the opposition candidate in Himara, Fredi Beleri, saying that from the point of view of the law he remains a candidate and will be able to be in the race on May 14.
Celibashi added that things can change regarding his candidacy only if he is sentenced with a final decision for a criminal offense that does not allow him to run under the decriminalization law.
“Everything is ready on the part of the CEC to carry out the process. The issue of transporting the material base has been and continues to be somewhat more stressful for the CEC. I have to say that it is an added burden for us even with electronic voting. We also have problems with the voting center commissions. There are still incomplete commissions due to documentation or withdrawals, etc.,” he said.
According to him, Beleri’s arrest is not a positive thing at all. “I have no comment as this is related to the judicial bodies, but from the point of view of the law, he remains a candidate and voters can vote for him if they want,” Celibashi said.
In addition he said that the decision not to register DP as an electoral subject was a difficult decision for the weight it carried, but from the point of view of the law and the evaluation in relation to it, I think it was not difficult and it was clear to me the decision that had to be taken. “One of the parties was not satisfied, but this does not mean that the decision is based on political interests,” said Celibashi. /argumentum.al
