TIRANA, August 22 – American Ambassador Yuri Kim called August 22 an historic day when a pair of US Air Force B52 strategic bombers flew low over the downtown Skanderbeg Square in the Albanian capital, Tirana on Monday.
According to Kim, the field of defense is very important. Kim expressed her happiness that he was in the middle of Tirana, in the middle of Albania for the historic flight of two B52 bombers, which are, according to her, the largest aircraft of the US military and are conducting a training exercise flying over the region, including Albania.
In addition to Tirana the aircraft flew over the walled Croatian tourist resort of Dubrovnik, the government headquarters in Skopje, North Macedonia, and up the Adriatic coast of Montenegro.

Referring to the recent incident with the two Russian citizens and an Ukrainian in Gramsh, where they were detained in an alleged espionage mission , Kim said that she was waiting for the investigation to be completed and those responsible to be brought to justice.
The Balkans and the Adriatic Sea have lately seen increased military, intelligence and propaganda activity by Moscow, which considers the region of its strategic interest because of its access to the Mediterranean.
In the meantime the US Air Force said in a statement on Monday that the purpose of each flyover is to demonstrate US commitment and assurance to NATO allies and partners located in southeastern Europe.
