TIRANA – The rate of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic has disappointed even the most optimistic medical specialists among whom Dr. Pellumb Pipero, who has become popular with Albanians since the outbreak of the disease combining information on the deadly virus and optimistic advice to be protected against it.
But in face of what has been happening over the last 2-week period characterized with daily cases varying from 50 to 88 Dr. Pipero appeared before Albanians disillusioned.
“The high figures following the reopening of the country have exceeded the expectations,” said the veteran doctor, who warned that if citizens continue to be negligent worse times will come because, as he confirmed, the virus has found terrain in all parts of Albania and has not lost his virulence.
Friday’s medical bulletin showed a gloomy picture with 77 new infected cases, more hospitalizations and two fatalities, which is the worst scenario since the outbreak of the epidemic on March 9 this year.
“The total number of infected persons with COVID-19 in Albania has reached the benchmark of 2,269 and 87 patients are hospitalized which is 11 more than a day before,” said Eugena Tomini, expert of Institute of Public Health on Friday.
The situation is serious at the Infectious Disease Ward, where 87 patients are currently being treated, 15 of them are in intensive care, while 2 are intubated. The only good news is that 48 citizens have been cured, bringing the number of cured people to 1298 since the beginning of the epidemic which, as specialists say, helps the health system to cope with the daily incoming patients.
According to Tomini, tests have continued at theISHP’s Virology Laboratory, and 402 tests have been performed to persons suspected of being infected with Covid-19, of which 77 positive cases have been confirmed during the last 24 hours.
A geographical distribution of cases places Tirana on top of the list with 28 cases followed by Shkodra (13), Durres (5) and, Korca (5). The contaminated people with the COVID19 were found in 15 cities and towns across this Balkan country where there are currently 920 active people. /argumentum.al
