The historical leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha has made the final announcement for the meeting of the long-awaited National Assembly of Democrats. “The Assembly of the Democratic Party will be held tomorrow. More united, stronger, more open,” Berisha said in a post on FB on Thursday.
Democrats will gather in the Assembly, considered as the re-establishment assembly of the Democratic Party, at the stadium “Air Albania” on December 11, 2021 at 10:00 am. According to the announcement of the movement “Foltore” on Thursday, the delegates will have their own special area, while the rest of the stadium “Air Albania” will be open to all members and supporters of the DP who want to be part of this moment
Tritan Shehu, a former DP head, is a supporter of the movement undertaken by Berisha to revive the DP whose motto is conversation with the DP grassroots called Foltore (Rostrum) across Albania.
Speaking about the December 11 Assembly, Shehu, a former FM, said on Thursday that DP Assembly will take important decisions for the party and the efficient opposition fight. Further on he said that Basha must resign for three major reasons: some electoral losses; although his motto in the campaign for re-election as Chairman was clearly in support of Berisha, 24 hours before the opening of the Assembly he arbitrarily communicated his expulsion from the parliamentary group; mismanagement of all political actions during the entire period from that moment until today. “The anti-American designation of the Assembly to be held on December 11 by Basha is groundless and damages our relations with the United States,” Shehu said.
Tomorrow’s Assembly has been preceded by dozens of meetings of Berisha with DP grassroots in all the corners of Albania which was like a test for the support to his movement for the re-foundation of the Democratic Party and the call for the resignation of the ‘chairman held hostage by PM Edi Rama’.
Basha has led DP since 2013 after the loss of the party headed by Berisha in the general elections. Berisha resigned, but given the state of things of the DP he has decided to return to active party life having the support of the majority of Democrats. DP has lost four elections under the leadership of Lulzim Basha and most of the Democrats suspect that he has a secret deal with PM Rama.
Basha considers the December 11 Assembly as illegal and has said he does not recognize any of its decisions hinting that he will not resign. On the contrary, he has called his National Assembly without organizing any meeting with the party members. It will be held on December 18.
The press office of Foltore has announced that after the Assembly at the stadium ‘Air Albania’ the delegates will go to the DP headquarters. No details are provided about what they will do there. / Argumentum.al
