TIRANA, September 27 – The Chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, has declared that party would run with joint candidates with the Democratic Party (DP) in the 2023 local elections.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Meta, a former President, said that they will soon convene the Freedom Party committee, while adding that they have very strong ambitions for this process. He said that the objective is the victory of the opposition, stressing that they are open to cooperate with DP, supporting the best candidates.
“We have started preparations for the next local elections. We will convene the FP committee. We have very strong ambitions. Albania will be separated from the one-party and illegal regime. And it will also restore local democracy, accountability and these 4 years of total misgovernance have been enough to give it the deserved punishment. The objective is the victory of the opposition. We are open to cooperate with DP to support the best candidates to stay loyal to accountability,” said Meta.
In the meantime, Meta stated that the approval of the government’s decision by the Energy Regulatory Authority, ERE on the establishment of the 800 kWh limit will lead to an increase in the price of energy for Albanians.
He said that he supports Konfindustria’s request for a hearing in the Assembly with ERE. “This entity has a legal obligation to publicly explain in a professional and detailed manner before the Parliament of Albania the financial, technical and institutional reasons of the energy system, which have led to the full acceptance without any changes of the executive’s proposal for the high increase in the price of electricity,” he said.
Meta added that, according to the data, in 2021 the energy system produced 6.5% more electricity than the consumption needs and surprisingly the country went into an energy crisis announced by the prime minister. Also, the total internal production of electricity has significantly exceeded the needs of energy consumers for the first 6 months of 2022 and beyond. /Argumentum.al
