TIRANA, November 22 – The head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta said in a post on Facebook on Tuesday that the Albanian people have been denied the right to express themselves through the Referendum for 24 years. He stressed that FP will make it possible for the Albanian people to restore this right in cooperation with the Democratic Party (DP), all other opposition forces, civil society and interest groups.
Meta said that the only way to restore accountability is a referendum in a captured state with paralyzed institutions.
“November 1998, the day when the Albanian people voted for the Constitution of the Republic of Albania through the Referendum deserves a special honor. This is one of the most positive events for democracy in the country, but the Albanian people have been denied the right to express themselves through the Referendum for 24 years,” said Meta, a former president.
According to him, in cooperation with the Democratic Party, with all other opposition forces, with civil society and interest groups, FP will make it possible for the Albanian people to restore this right, which is guaranteed by the Constitution itself for which the people voted 24 years ago.
“In a captured state and with paralyzed institutions, the only way to restore accountability is the Referendum,” concluded Meta. /Argumentum.al
