TIRANA, November 17 – The US intends to strengthen cooperation with Albania in democracy and also in the field of business, said the US ambassador, Yuri Kim, in her speech at the meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
Kim said that American businesses were investing more than ever in Albania and added that it was essential to remove criminal and political influence in the economy, saying that this would serve to create more connections between the American economy and the Albanian one. “We want to strengthen Albanian-American cooperation in democracy and especially in the field of business. We know that in order to create more connections between the US economy and Albania, we must have an open, transparent and competitive business environment,” she said.
According to the Ambassador, exports to the United States increased by 36%. In partnership with American businesses, Albania is becoming a leader in energy. “You know the projects that are being consulted on such as Skavica and the distribution of liquefied natural gas. We are coming at a time that is very important as we face new challenges that are also old challenges,” said Kim.
The liquefied natural gas project in Vlora can bring about 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, she said, adding that the reforms in Albania are working. In Ambassador’s view, it is essential to remove criminal or political influence in the economy./Argumentum.al
