PM Rama sees Beleri as equal before the law in Albania

TIRANA, August 30 – In an interview for the Greek public television, ERT, Prime Minister Edi Rama has reiterated his position on Fredi Beleri that the elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, who is accused of buying votes, is equal like all citizens before justice.

“The gentleman is a citizen of the Republic of Albania, who must be equal before the law like every citizen of the Republic of Albania, but at the same time he must answer to the law like every citizen of the Republic of Albania and there cannot be two justices, one justice for Albanian citizens of Albanian nationality and another for Albanian citizens of Greek nationality. There is only one justice and if this justice is not perfect, it is not perfect for everyone,” said Rama in the interview with ERT carried by local media in Albanian on Wednesday.

According to Rama, the threats from Athens are an outdated and non-European way of warning from Greece.

Regarding the threats from Athens to hinder EU integration and block European funds for Albania, Prime Minister Rama gave this answer: “Greece or Athens thinks that the ball is in this office on this matter, implying that if the ball does not go in the direction that Athens wants, Athens will take revenge on Albania, hindering the EU membership process, – this is not European and this is very ancient in my opinion,” said the government head.

On the contrary he saw in Greece our partner not only in the Balkans, but also our partner in the EU. “So I really hope that placing the bust of Prime Minister Mitsotakis in Derviçan, which I promised then and I have no intention of withdrawing from that promise because there is a misunderstanding today, will be another reason to understand each other well , that in Tirana, in this office, Greece has a friend, a true friend, a sincere friend. I am the prime minister of Albania, I am not the prime minister of Greece and I serve the interests of Albania and I am at the head of a historic battle for justice in Albania to do equal justice for everyone.”

The Prime Minister also appreciated the Greek minority in Albania, as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“The Greek minority in Albania is a treasure for our culture and coexistence and an irreplaceable bridge to strengthen the friendship between the two peoples, between the two states and governments, regardless of who governs in Tirana and Athens,” Rama said. /argumentum.al
