TIRANA, October 4 – The threats against SPAK prosecutor Doloreza Musabelliu and former Lushnja prosecutor Merita Selimi have worried the US embassy and the EU Delegation in Tirana.

The US Embassy said in a press release issued on social networks on Wednesday that it will continue to support law enforcement officials in Albania, who are fighting corruption and organized crime with courage, and is ready to support their efforts.

According to the Embassy, a justice system that operates without fear and intimidation is a legitimate demand of the Albanian people, and the United States is deeply concerned about threats of violence against law enforcement officials who are working to make Albania safe, prosperous and more democratic.

The press release said that the United States reiterates its unwavering support for law enforcement officials in Albania, who are courageously fighting corruption and organized crime, and stands ready to support their efforts.

The EU has also expressed full support for the officials who fight against organized crime and corruption in an announcement on social networks on Wednesday.

The EU delegation to Albania is deeply concerned about the threats made to the justice authorities who work every day in the fight against organized crime in Albania, said the announcement. According to it, the EU Delegation welcomes the commitment of the Albanian authorities to quickly investigate these threats and hold the perpetrators accountable, while it expresses its full support for all officials working in the fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania.

The confession of repentant convict Artan Tafani in front of justice for the crimes committed by the so-called gang of Laert Haxhiu in Lushnja, brought to light a plan for the physical elimination of the special prosecutor, Doloreza Musabelliu. Protective measures have been added for her at the request of the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani. Such protective measures are also taken  for ex-prosecutor Selimi. /argumentum.al
