TIRANA – “Normally, we would have celebrated this day with many friends. Due to the pandemic and the ban on gatherings, it has been impossible to organize a traditional reception, a concert or an exhibition. The National Day, however, obliges us to remember this day, even symbolically with few people,” has said the Polish Ambassador, Karol Bachura as quoted by a press release issued by the Polish Embassy on Monday.
The Ambassador made that comment at an event organized by the Polish Embassy in Tirana to celebrate the National Day, the Day of the Constitution on May 3, near the Lake of Farka, exactly where the “Poland Park” was inaugurated two years ago, on May 4, 2018, with the participation of President of Albania Ilir Meta. There are some 100 oak trees in this park, which symbolize the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s Independence.
Mr. Bachura unveiled the marble plaque “Poland Park”, which was blessed by the patriarch of the Church St. John Paul II in Bathore, Andrzej Michoń , in a ceremony attended by representatives of the Municipality of Tirana.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the ban on gatherings, it was impossible to organize a traditional reception, a concert or an exhibition, said the Ambassador who stressed: “The National Day, however, obliges us to remember this day, even symbolically with few people. That is why we are celebrating the 229th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of Poland on May 3 – the first fundamental law in Europe and the second in the world – here in Farka. Constitution Day is a celebration of democracy, because every fundamental law is the lung of democracy,” said Ambassador Bachura on this occasion.
Two years ago, the Polish Embassy in Tirana actively joined the action for planting trees launched by Tirana Municipality. After two years, almost all of the oak trees are in good shape. Any tree, including the oak trees of the “Poland Park”, is a natural respirator cleaning the air which is indispensable for life.
In a reference to the progress of the combat with COVID-19 in Albania, Ambassador Bachura highly appreciated the work of health personnel, authorities and the reaction of Albanian society while ensuring Albanians that for better or worse the Poles will always be by their side, whether in times of natural disasters, or of global pandemics, as allies in NATO, as well as supporters to Albania’s path toward EU membership.
“Being in solidarity with the Albanian people, we wish him endurance, courage, eternal hope and the fastest possible meeting under the soothing branches of the Polish oaks, which provide shade and protection at the “Poland Park” to which we cordially invite you after the removal of restrictions due to pandemic,” said the press release of the Polish Embassy issued on the occasion of the National Holiday – the Constitution of May 3. /argumentum.al
