TIRANA – In a string of statements on the relations between US and Albania within a short span of time, the US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim has listed her main priorities for the promotion of the relationship between the United States and Albania.
According to a post on her Twitter account on Thursday, Ambassador Kim said that her first priority is to strengthen US-Albania defense relations. Albania considers US as her major strategic partner and its closest ally in NATO. The two other priorities of her work are the democratization of the institutions and increase of the trade and investments.
“My 3 priorities are: to strengthen US-Albania defense relations, to support establishment & functioning of democratic institutions, and to increase US-Albania trade & investment. All three require rule of law, transparency & end of corruption!” said Ambassador Yuri Kim on Twitter.
In an interview on a local TV on Tuesday evening Washington’s top envoy spoke on justice reform, the Constitutional Court, political leaders who do not want reform in judiciary without mentioning any names, relationship with political camps siding with none, and other issues.
A short time before the interview the US Embassy launched an appeal for the establishment of the Constitutional Court as soon as possible in Albania.
In a post on Twitter the US Embassy said: “Justice reform has made real progress but still requires work in Albania. It is time for all leaders to show political will and establish the Constitutional Court. The people should not have to keep waiting.” /argumentum.al
