TIRANA – Opposition Democratic Party (DP) insists that Albania can hold general elections in 2021 having a transitional government. In a comment made during a talk show on News 24 TV on Saturday the DP representative in the Political Council on the electoral reform, Oerd Bylykbashi said that even if the electoral system is changed the establishment of a transitional government is vital.
“We demand a transitional government for the 2021 general elections. The reform is the perimeter of the elections because the task of a government is to be neutral and the state should be divided from the political parties,” said Bylykbashi.
The Political Council is supposed to conclude the electoral reform by the end of May although there are many differences between the majority and the united opposition with the ruling Socialist Party excluding the possibility of a government change before the 2021 elections.
But Bylybashi, who is co-chairman of the Political Council together with SP’s Damian Gjiknuri, said the current government should be out of the ‘game’ of the elections.
“The transition government is a guarantee that state sources are not used by the current government as it did with police and administration which were used to collect votes and offered tax reduction or pardoning of fines before the holding of the previous elections,” said Bylykbashi. /argumentum.al
