TIRANA – Albania’s economy will go through a recession according to the forecasts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj said speaking before the Law Parliamentary Committee on Wednesday.
“The most affected in the production sector are services and tourism the effect of which will be felt in the third quarter as the greatest impact on economic growth is felt in this period from this sector,” she said.
According to her, the manufacturing sector has also been affected regarding both turnover and other elements, especially in terms of employment.
However Denaj being optimistic said that the Albanian economy will have a recovery during the second half of the year although it will not be able to go to the parameters planned by the government at the end of last year.
According to her, the GDP will also be revised downwards due to shocks from the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the meantime the minister unveiled that the third package of economic recovery after Covid-19 will be announced in June. It will address the needs of the economy and prioritize the most important projects of the government, she said.
So far, the government has drafted two aid packages which are more oriented to the financial support of workers and families in need and two sovereign guarantees for payment of wages and liquidity./argumentum.al
