TIRANA – A worsening of the epidemiological situation has been considered as serious by the Health Ministry as the daily medical bulletin revealed that Albania had an increasing trend of confirmed positive cases with COVID – 19 during the past week with a weekly average of around 90 cases.
“A growing trend is also the cases that have been hospitalized or needed treatment in intensive therapy,” said Eugena Tomini of the Social Health Institute (ISHP) on Monday. According to her, there was a fatality at the Covid 2 ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ hospital where an 80- year old from Tirana passed away in the last 24 hours.
In the meantime, as Tomini said, 267 tests were performed on suspects affected by COVID-19 of which 81 positive cases were confirmed during the last 24 hours.
‘Currently, 123 patients are being treated in the two COVID hospitals, the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ Hospital, 18 are in intensive care and 3 patients are intubated,” she said.
The geographical distribution of the cases is as following: 50 cases in Tirana, 4 cases in Shkodra, Korca, Kavaja, 3 cases in Durres, Fier, Elbasan, Mirdita, Tropoja, Kamza, 1 case in Kurbin.
“All these indicators show that the virus will continue its transmission if citizens do not become aware of complying with the established rules: to wear masks indoors, to maintain social distance, and implementation of the approved protocols by businesses,” said the ISHP specialist.
