Rama’s Private Visit to Athens Starts with Talks with Greek FM

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama started the agenda of his ‘private’ visit to Athens with a meeting with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Friday.
This was announced by Greek FM in a post on Twitter saying that the focus of the talks were bilateral ties and regional issues.
“I met with Albania PM Edi Rama at Greece MFA. Bilateral relations, Albania’s EU perspective and recent regional developments in focus,” said Dendias in his note on Twitter accompanied with a photo of the two interlocutors during the meeting.
Later in the day Rama will hold an informal meeting with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Although it’s not mentioned related issues on the agreement between the two countries for recourse to the International Court of Justice in the Hague for the delimitation of their maritime zones could be on the agenda. The move requires the two sides to sign a formal statement of intent, which has not yet been done.
The issue is connected with Albania’s European aspirations, said ekathimerini.com on Friday.
Rama’s visit comes a day after he was warmly received in Ankara by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with whom the strategic partnership was sealed on January 6.
Before leaving for Ankara, Rama had a phone conversation with Dendias on January 5 on bilateral issues, as well as regional developments.
In the meantime it was said by ‘BalkanWeb’ that Greece will donate some doses of the anti-COVID vaccine for Albania.
