The Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Albania, Luigi Soreca, stated on Saturday that he was confident that he was leaving Albania on the eve of the opening of intergovernmental negotiations with the EU possibly in June.
In a statement to reporters in the town of Erseka, southern Albania, on Saturday Soreca said that last year in June the European Council decided that Albania had met all the required conditions and all this had not happened in 2018.The EU High Representative, Borrell stressed the fact during his visit to Tirana a few days ago that it was very important to open the accession negotiations with Albania “The whole region is very important for stability and security, and that’s because of the threat that comes to us from everything that has happened in Ukraine,” he said.Soreca stressed that justice reform has made progress, and thanks to that progress there is now talk of consolidating justice institutions.”I know the judiciary, because of my previous work and these things take time. Things are moving and we have justice institutions. The vetting process will continue and only 2 days ago we had the appointment of the other judge in the Constitutional Court. Things are going well, it is not as it used to be,” he said. Regarding the price increases in Albania, the ambassador said that this came as a result of the war and not sanctions.
“The EU will continue to stand by Albania to help it as it has done during the two crises that the country has gone through during the last 4 years such as the earthquake or the pandemic … In case the war goes on the EU will continue with its assistance,” said Soreca. /Argumentum.al
