TIRANA, March 30 – The deputy of the ruling Socialist Party (SP), Alqi Bllako submitted on Wednesday in the Assembly the statement for voluntarily resigning from the mandate of the deputy. Consequently, the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, decided to cancel the meeting of the Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity, which was announced to take place on Wednesday at 18:00.
“MP Alqi Bllako has submitted to the Assembly the statement for resigning from the parliamentarian mandate voluntarily and consequently the Assembly can not continue the procedures for reviewing the request of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime to authorize the arrest of MP Alqi Bllako,” it is said in the announcement of the Assembly.
The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK submitted the request for authorization for the arrest of MP Alqi Bleak to the Assembly on Tuesday.
The request comes after investigations launched into abuses in the construction and operation of waste processing plants in three regions in Albania, that is Tirana, Fier and Elbasan.
In a comment on this corrupt scheme due to which 12 high officials have been put behind bars during the last few days Justice Minister Ulsi Manja declared that responsibilities are individual. Responding to the media interest after the government meeting regarding the case of the socialist MP Bllako who is under investigation by SPAK, Manja said that whenever it comes to justice issues the position of the government and the SP has been clear: justice issues are matters of judiciary.
Opposition and independent media insist PM Edi Rama and Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj are the heads of the ‘octapodium’ and urge SPAK to extend the investigation to the highest cupola. They argue that such huge amount s of people’s money could not have been stolen without Rama and Veliaj being involved in the mega corrupt scheme.
The US ambassador hasn’t yet made any comments which is usual in such cases.
