TIRANA, August 8 – The State Police and the Guardia di Finanza have successfully completed an international operation coded “Syri” (Eye) capturing about 1 ton of suspected narcotics, stated the Director of the Local Directorate of the Vlora Police, Gentian Berberi in a press conference together with the prosecutor of the Vlora Prosecutor’s Office Anton Pali and the Italian counterparts on Monday.
“The operation was carried out by air, sea and land and about 1 ton of suspected narcotic marijuana was seized,” Berberi said, announcing that 3 citizens were arrested, and 1 more is wanted. “Also, the Guardia di Finanza handcuffed the 2 drivers of the boat in which the narcotics were found. 3 boats and 2 vehicles were seized by the Police of Vlora, while the GDF seized the boat in which the narcotics were found. There were two Ukrainians among those arrested.
Berberi said that about 250 police forces, which carried out checks and pursuits from land, sea and from the air with GDF and Frontex helicopters, were involved in the operation.
“The controls were finalized with the blocking of the vessel that had the narcotic substance and the arrest of the persons who had organized its trafficking. As a result of the operation, the State Police services made it possible to identify the persons suspected of having transported the narcotics with 3 vessels to another vessel in the open sea,” he said. /Argumentum.al
