TIRANA, August 23 – The 2nd contingent composed of 30 troops from the Land Forces, troops of the Commando Battalion in the Special Operations Regiment (ROS) left for Kosovo to serve as part of the KFOR mission on Tuesday.
The Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi appreciated this as a special moment due to the fact that these officers go on a mission as representatives of the country in the efforts of the NATO Alliance to serve security and peace.
“The Republic of Albania has consistently proven that it is not only a factor of peace and stability in the region and beyond, but also a serious ally, which undertakes and bears the burden of obligations within the framework of the collective defense of the Alliance,” he said during a speech in the ceremony.
The Minister emphasized the unsparing support of Albania to the aspirations of Kosovo, but also appreciated the increased presence of the forces of the Alliance countries as part of KFOR.
“As the Secretary General of NATO underlined a few days ago, KFOR troops in Kosovo are ready and determined to follow their duty in fulfilling the mission to maintain a safe environment in Kosovo and in the region,” said Peleshi.
The troops of the 2nd Albanian contingent will serve in the Peja area together with their Italian and Croatian colleagues.
