TIRANA, October 29 – The Freedom Party (FP) held the National Convention as well as the elections for the new leadership of the party on Saturday and the only candidate for the seat of chairman was Ilir Meta, who founded Socialist Movement for Integration which turned into FP after its restructuring. Meta leads this political force after the end of his five-year presidential mandate.
“Extraordinary crises require strong political leadership and extraordinary solutions. We offer a political program and governing model that is based on accountability, cooperation, democracy, constitutionalism and referendum,” said Meta in his key speech.
FP is committed to the restoration of legal security in Albania to protect the freedoms and rights of citizens and business, as well as to an economic model that stimulates initiative and the free market, competitiveness and well-being for all. “We intend to have an economic development, which translates into increases in the current wages of the majority of Albanians, which are survival wages, enough to keep the spirit alive.”
Speaking of the upcoming local power elections Meta said: “We have a very important political and electoral challenge in front of us such as the local elections of May 14… The victory of the opposition is the only opportunity for citizens to regain control of their cities.”
Further he said Tirana has turned into a trap of concrete and stress, traffic and endless waste of time, where corruption kills the health and lives of children, the elderly and all citizens.
Tirana’s indicators are catastrophic and getting worse day by day, so today more than ever the capital needs change and the victory of the opposition and its program, he said. Meta was the only person registered as a candidate for the post of FP head. “It was a pleasure, a modern vote and not so simple to choose. I believe that through these elections we are taking an important step to shape the new FP leadership for an Albania that belongs to young people,” Meta said after casting his ballot. /Argumentum.al
