TIRANA, January 5/ – The US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, met on Thursday with the newly appointed head of prosecution authority of serious crimes, SPAK, Altin Dumani to congratulate him on his leadership position.

The news was announced through a post on released American Embassy in Tirana on social networks “She (Kim) reiterated that the United States will continue to strongly support the implementation of justice reform, a requirement for Albania’s aspirations to join the European Union,” the Embassy’s announcement said.

“In this regard and to advance the implementation of the fact that President Biden has identified the fight against corruption as a core national security interest of the United States, we will fully support SPAK prosecutors and investigators as they build on the successes to date and intensify prosecuting high-level corruption and organized crime, in accordance with the law, without fear or favor. No one is above the law, the Embassy quoted Kim as saying.

This is Ambassador Kim’s first visit to SPAK, after the election of the new head of this institution.

Altin Dumani was elected head of SPAK on December 16 last year receiving 5 votes from 10 members of the High Prosecution Council who participated in the election of the chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution.

While candidate Edvin Kondili ranked second with 4 votes and Adnan Xholi received only one vote. Duman’s mandate is 3 years, without the right to a second mandate. Duman took over the leadership of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, after the end of Arben Kraja’s mandate. /Argumentum.al
