The expansion of the bilateral relationship between Albania and North Macedonia has great importance for the two countries and people, has said President Ilir Meta during a meeting with Speaker Talat Xhaferi in Skopje where he is on an official visit on Tuesday.
Meta underlined the importance of further deepening ties in all areas, of good neighborly relations between the two countries, especially inter-parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing the need for the establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Albanian Parliament as soon as possible, which would give new impetus to parliamentary interaction.
President Meta expressed to the Speaker Xhaferi the appreciation for the successful and responsible exercise of this high and very important function, as well as for his role in further strengthening the interethnic relations and coexistence in the Republic of North Macedonia.
The Head of the Albanian State noted that parliamentary democracy can play an important role in deepening cooperation between the two countries in the economic, cultural and educational fields. President Meta further stressed that the opening of European Union membership negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia as soon as possible, as well as visa liberalization for Kosovo, would bring concrete and very positive contributions to the consolidation of peace, stability and security in the region, as well as for the prosperity of citizens.
Appreciating the significant progress made so far in respecting the Ohrid Agreement, Meta encouraged the necessity of its full implementation and integral implementation as an excellent opportunity for further consolidation of peace and interethnic harmony, for further strengthening of the bilateral relations and to get closer to each other and to the European Union.
“Respect for all freedoms and rights of Albanians, according to the most advanced European standards, is essential and encourages their greater and better participation, as a state-building factor, in the social, administrative and political life of North Macedonia,” Meta said. / Argumentum.al
