TIRANA – Albanian President Ilir Meta has expressed his belief in the innocence of the Kosovo leaders, President Hashim Thaci and Former Speaker of the Parliament Kadri Veseli, who were indicted for war crimes by the Office of the Special Prosecutor in the Hague on Wednesday.
“We believe in the innocence of President Hashim Thaci, former Speaker of Parliament Kadri Veseli and all their comrades-in-arms. Even before allegations have been made against former leaders of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), but their innocence and the justice of the war have been confirmed. We believe this will happen again,” said President Meta.
Further on he said that the fight by Kosovo Liberation Army which was imposed on the people of Kosovo by the oppression and genocide of Milosevic’s criminal regime, proved to be just and decisive, not only for the freedom and establishment of the Republic of Kosovo within internationally recognized borders, but also for peace, stability, and its European future and that of the region.
In his reaction Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed his indignation towards the indictment by the Office of the Special Prosecutor in The Hague against Thaci and Veseli. “I will always be on the side of all those who fought with weapons to unchain the imprisoned Kosovo in the inferno of Slobodan Milosevic,” Rama wrote in social networks on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old Thaci, like many other present-day Kosovo politicians, played a prominent role in the resistance movement that pitted ethnic Albanians against Serbs in Kosovo. /argumentum.al
