TIRANA, October 4 – The chairmen of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, and the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, have held a joint meeting at the DP headquarters. After this meeting, both parties have confirmed the alliance for the local elections of 2024.
“Today, a meeting between the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, and the Chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta was held at the headquarters of the Democratic Party. The General Secretary of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka and the chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Freedom Party, Petrit Vasili participated in this meeting,” it is said in the announcement released on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, both parties fully agreed on the cooperation, coordination and Alliance of the Democratic Party with the Freedom Party in local elections, parliamentary initiatives and popular protests against the government of Edi Rama. The meeting was characterized by a spirit of complete understanding.
In the meantime FP head Meta said that he is open to cooperate with the entire opposition for the local elections.
“The Freedom Party, as you know, is open to cooperating with any true opposition factor, first of all with the DP in the interest of establishing democracy as soon as possible in the country. Secondly, the Freedom Party has been and is ready to cooperate and coordinate the opposition action as a national interest and not a party interest. This does not exist as the philosophy of the Freedom Party,” said Meta.
Further he said that FP has as its objective the confrontation with Edi Rama and the mafia regime and wants to join forces in the most open way with all other forces that are really in opposition to the current prime minister.
“As for the candidates, it is important to have only one in each municipality. In other conditions, there could be 2, 3 or 4. In this regard, we have made it clear that we will not set conditions for any type of municipality,” he said.
Meta declared that the opposition struggles to emerge as the first force in all municipal councils of Albania, primarily in Tirana. “It is the right of every political force to reach its maximum. The Municipal Council of Tirana will be many times more important than the Parliament that still has some problems. The second important thing in terms of dealing with a mafia regime is that the opposition should run with a candidate in every municipality,” said Meta. /Argumentum.al
