An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale has been reported in Albania near Durres on Sunday morning, Albanian and foreign geosciences institutions said. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday 6 December 2020 at 8.19 a.m. local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours as seismologists review data and refine their calculations.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter and nearby areas. As preliminary reports by local media say there are neither human nor material damages. The quake should have been felt as light shaking even in other areas but there are no reports about Tirana, 36 km away from the epicenter.
Durres was hit hard on November 26 last year which took the life of 51 people injuring hundreds and causing huge material damages whose impact is still felt as hundreds of affected inhabitants continue to be homeless getting shelter in tents. /argumentum.al
