TIRANA, June 9 – Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti said on Thursday that the relationship with Greece is “growing closer by the day”.
PM Kurti shared on Twitter photos from the meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, while on an official visit to the country.
On Wednesday, Dendias met Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani. After the meeting, Osmani declared that the two countries share “the same Euro Atlantic values”.
She called on Greece to support Kosovo’s bid to join the Council of Europe and NATO, as a security guarantee not only for Kosovo as a state but the entire region.
Earlier on Tuesday Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with the Head of the Liaison Office of Greece, Ambassador Heleni Vakali, where among other things the country’s executive called for the recognition of Kosovo.
Kurti commended the good bilateral ties but added that more can be done by enhancing trade, economic cooperation, and investments.
Pristina called on Athens to join the rest of the EU countries in recognizing the country’s independence, according to a statement released to the press.
Ambassador Vakali said she feels honored to take up such an important post and that Greece is a strong and sincere friend to Kosovo.
“Although we still do not recognize the independence of Kosovo, Greece has been able to develop bilateral ties without any issues whatsoever,” emphasized Vakali.
Greece is among the five EU countries which do not recognize Kosovo and although their leaders are highly worried over the current situation after Russian invasion of Ukraine saying WB is part of their enlargement platform they behave with Kosovo as nothing has happened.
