The 120 members of the 11th Legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo have taken the oath of office for their new parliamentary mandate, officially marking the start of the work of the newly elected parliament following the June 7 elections.
Prior to this, the Assembly, with 120 votes in favor, approved the report of the temporary commission responsible for verifying the quorum and the mandates of the newly elected deputies. During the constitutive session, a commission for the verification of mandates was established, while the next steps are expected to include procedures for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
However, the session was suspended after the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, requested additional time to continue political negotiations regarding the election of the next President of the Republic of Kosovo.
The issue of the presidency remains the main source of political disagreement between Vetëvendosje and the opposition parties. With the constitution of the Assembly, the 60-day constitutional deadline for the election of the country’s head of state has also begun.
