TIRANA, September 30 – The cancellation of the decision on the increase of electricity price has been made due to the approach of local elections and the firm stance of the opposition. This is the common opinion shared by the chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta and the head of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha after Friday’s statement of PM Edi Rama to cancel the application of the decision on the 800 kWh threshold in Albania on October 1.
“I have given him a public ultimatum repeatedly: If you increase the price of energy, you will expect what you deserve! Only pressure works with this man,” said Berisha in the weekly press conference on Friday.
For his part in a separate statement Meta said: “There is also a fear before the (local) elections to not be able to cope with this arbitrary act.”
Meta and Berisha shared the same attitude regarding the initiative of amnesty for the money of immigrants up to 2 million euros.
For Meta, this amnesty brings crime money into the country, while Berisha has called on the deputies not to vote for it in the Assembly.
“That deputy who votes for Edi Rama’s fiscal amnesty votes for crime and only crime. Edi Rama has no votes for amnesty. It is completely lobbying for crime,” said Berisha.
In the meantime Meta said: “(Rama) should not damage, delay and further undermine the European integration process of Albania.”
