TIRANA, October 13 – President Bajram Begaj considered the visit of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Canada, Anthony Rota to Albania as an important moment for relations between Albania and Canada because it also coincides with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Underlining the very good and friendly relations consolidated even more in the last two decades, President Begaj appreciated the progress of the political dialogue as well as the close partnership within the NATO alliance in the conversation with Rota at the presidential headquarters on Thursday.
Begaj praised the support that Canada has given to the integration and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Albanian community that lives and works in that country, considering it as a bridge of friendship and cooperation.
Begaj called the bilateral agreement for mutual recognition of social security importance. He expressed the belief that Rota and other Canadian MPs will provide their assistance in the further advancement of representative diplomatic relations in the respective capitals as well as the promotion of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
For his part, the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Anthony Rota praised the progress made by Albania and assured President Begaj of his and the Chamber of Deputies’ support for the further advancement of bilateral relations.
The two interlocutors also discussed the latest world developments, Russian military aggression on Ukraine, threats to peace, security and the current world order, the impact of climate change on security issues, as well as joint commitments and the need for coordinated bilateral responses and with allies. They also dwelt on the developments in the Western Balkans and the importance of continuing the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the best way to reach a comprehensive and applicable agreement. /Argumentum.al
