TIRANA – In a comment on the detention of a journalist in the northern seaside town of Shengjin President Ilir Meta raised his concern over the continued violence against journalists by police on Thursday.
Journalist Elvis Hila was detained and taken to police as he was reporting the demolitions being made by the National Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory in Shengjin, a town on the Adriatic Sea, which is a well known beach in Albania and is in the process of welcoming tourists.
The President expressed solidarity with the apprehended reporter and called on all media staff to keep informing the public bravely, courageously, professionally based only on facts and the truth.
Further on he condemned strongly the repeated cases of police violence, blackmail and threats against journalists in the line of duty.
Further on Meta called on the State Police to show professionalism, respect the law, the freedom and rights of journalists and distance themselves from abusive practices that bring back the darkest times of the violation of human rights that severely damage Albania’s image. /argumentum. al
