The “”World Forum for Culture and a Just Peace ” taking place in Valletta under the auspices of the President of Malta, George Vella is being held in extremely dramatic moments, when peace, true leadership, mediation and reconciliation between nations and peoples are a necessity and urgency, said Albania’s President Ilir Meta in his contribution in this event on Thursday.
“As we speak here, rockets and bombs are being dropped on Ukrainian cities, hospitals, schools and homes. Many civilians lost their lives and many others were injured. This is a dark period not only for Ukraine but for the whole world,” he said.
“We all live under the same sky, but we see different horizons. True leadership means vision and determination to look forward to a brighter future, serving the people, the country and defending peace,” Meta said.
According to him, only democracy can prevent war and build trust between nations. He noted that today there are many conflicts in the world and they are fueled by irresponsible, exclusionary and violent leaders. Undemocratic leaders oppress their peoples, divide nations, and open the door to expansionist ambitions.
In conclusion Albania’s President said maintaining peace in the Western Balkans is also essential for peace in Europe and the world as it has been seen so far. / Argumentum.al
