TIRANA, October 10 – In an interview with the Italian media, SkyTg24, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that relations between Albania and Italy are not determined by political lines, and he revealed as an example the relationship of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berslusconi with his former Albanian counterpart Fatos Nano. Rama said that the pair had good relations despite their different political beliefs. Rama said that the middle way must be found.
“It does not depend on the political direction. I think of Berlusconi, who is a representative of the right in Italy, but anyway Berlusconi had a very good relationship with Fatos Nano, who was a socialist prime minister of Albania. I tell you this because there were periods when there were right-wing governments, while in Albania there were left-wing governments. Political affiliation doesn’t matter,” said Rama speaking about the relations with the new Italian PM, Giorgia Meloni.
Rama, who is also head of the left-wing Socialist Party, said as quoted by local media on Monday that there is a political atmosphere of historical ties and the links between Albania and Italy are early.
“Tirana was designed by Italian architects and everything you see in Tirana as a cultural monument of special importance was realized and built precisely by Italian architects in the period before and during the fascist occupation. Even during the fascist occupation, let’s say it was an occupation as if it were something more natural because Albania belonged to this empire and I don’t believe there will be any change in relations,” said PM Rama.
“If a government is more right, or more left or you are in the opposition, after all when it comes to governing then you have to be careful because you have to do everything not to be annihilated by the right or the left and you have to find a middle golden line because it is easy to write all those epic poems about what can be done in the future, but when you manage to govern, then everything becomes more difficult,” said Rama. /Argumentum.al
