The US Ambassador, Yuri Kim has thanked President Ilir Meta and Speaker Gramoz Ruci because as she said they have clarified that Albania must have a functioning Constitutional Court. In a post on Twitter on Friday the Ambassador said Meta and Ruci should work with relevant bodies urgently for the establishment of the Constitutional Court before the end of 2020.
US Ambassador’s appeal to President Meta and Speaker Ruci, who separately spoke of this issue, is made at a time when majority and opposition are far apart on many pending issues, including those related with the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on April 25 next year.
It is precisely on Friday when Kim’s call was launched that President Meta reacted harshly to the majority’s initiative on the organic law approved by Parliament, headed by Speaker Gramoz Ruci of the ruling Socialist Party, which limited President’s powers, threatening he could dissolve Parliament even before the April 25th elections.
“There is no unconstitutional law by an unconstitutional parliament that prevents the president from fulfilling his mission in defense of free and fair elections. The majority has tried it with the president; the result has been 3 to 0 all the times it has gone to Venice,” President Meta told the Socialist majority.
