Covid Update: Week Starts with Drop of New Cases.

TIRANA – Some 16 new Covid-19 affected cases were confirmed on Monday raising to 2571 the total number of the infected people in the coronavirus pandemic, while the number of fatalities amounted to 21, the medical bulletin released by health authorities in Albania revealed on Monday.

A quick look at the figure of the new cases shows that there is a drop of the number as compared with Sunday and Saturday when 28 and 29 additional cases were registered.  The figures show, on the other hand, that 12 patients have recovered taking to 116 the number of infected persons that overpowered the deadly Covid-19. The average age of the infected people continues to be 50 years old.

“There are 66 patients hospitalized at the infectious diseases hospital 5 of whom are in intensive therapy, while 7 other patients are being taken cared at the COVID 2 “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospital where 5 patients out of the total are in  intensive therapy,” said deputy health minister Mira Rakacolli.

Tirana tops the list of the infected persons but, according to the health official, the figures show a growth of the number of cases in Shkodra, Tirana and Has, a town in northeastern part of Albania. She noted that the confirmed cases have proved that the virus was spread because of the failure to respect the social distancing and other restriction measures.

The start of the week considered by some specialists as the peak of the infection although there is confusion regarding this was marked by a renewal of anti-government criticism of Democratic Party’s Lulzim Basha whose cursing discourse was characterized by the motto: Without tests, traces, confinement the impact will be very grave!

But Basha’s main target was PM Edi Rama, his main political rival for years,  whom he criticized harshly for hiding himself behind a technical committee expecting that the people will not see how much unprepared he is.

Some analysts have brought to the attention that unlike in the case of the earthquake of 27 November 2019 the opposition and its head Basha are not engaged in any fund raising effort to mobilize entrepreneurs and other owners of big sized businesses close to the Democratic Party to make donations to vulnerable segments of the population. This becomes obvious because at this coronavirus time the possibilities of many vulnerable families are scarce to make their living in the confinement regime which, as official indications have hinted, might be loosened during this week starting with small businesses. /argumentum.al
