TIRANA – “Today’s act of unilateral and unjustifiably urgent change of the Constitution by the Parliament with truncated legitimacy is unconstitutional and unacceptable,” said President Ilir Meta his reaction against the constitutional changes adopted by majority in Parliament on Thursday.
“The violent change of the Constitution smashed the consensual agreements of 14 January and 5 June that enabled a comprehensive process and product, again blowing up the trust between the parties, the social peace in the country and the process of Albania’s European integration,” said Meta.
Further on he said that the opportunistic and hypocritical rhetoric of some internationals goes against the aspiration and strategic project of Albanians to build a European future.
“No hostage-taking gang will be able to escape the deserved response that it will receive from the strength of the united citizens against this coup,” said the President, who pledged to be in charge of the task of defending the Constitution, inalienable rights and the will of the citizens to take their destinies into their own hands.
In conclusion President Meta warned: “Today Edi Rama invited the Albanian people to a historic confrontation. Today he boasted that he is the son of a communist who hanged poets because of free speech in the middle of Kukes. We Albanians will answer in Albanian until the end!”/argumentum.al
