TIRANA – The Health Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that there are 139 new cases affected by COVID – 19, while 6 patients lost their lives, bringing to 182 the total number of the fatalities.
According to the daily medical bulletin on Wednesday, currently in the Infectious Diseases Hospital and “Shefqet Ndroqi” there are 110 sick patients with coronavirus and 21 of them are in intensive therapy, while 6 are intubated.
As of 5 August 2020, C19 statistics are as follows: total tests- 43,764, positive cases -5,889, cured cases 3,123, active cases 2589 and fatalities – 182.
But the opposition Democratic Party (DP) and specialists of epidemiology continue to insist that the figures provided by the local government authorities do not show the real situation which is out of control.
“There is no transparency with regard to COVID-19. It needs full transparency on everything that is done for coronavirus. We have zero information about the origin of the tests,” said former Democratic Party (DP) deputy Bardh Spahia.
Besides the lack of transparency, Spahia told a local media outlet on Wednesday that Albania is already on the verge of complete collapse of the health system.
“We are on the verge of a complete collapse of the health system. There are more infected in Shefqet Ndroqi Hospital than it is said. All this leads to a complete failure of the Albanian institutions,” he said.
The senior DP official, who is also a doctor, said there is an urgent need to take concrete measures to guarantee the necessary staff, which is small in number in face of patients. Further on he said doctors need special treatment, the situation requires specialized personnel and not non-specialized medical personnel. “This is because instead of improving the situation it may become more dangerous for the spread of the virus.”
In addition Spahia said that Albania had done few tests, while adding that the government hides the real data. He said there are actually more citizens infected with Covid-19.
“Albania has done very few tests, 4 times fewer than Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tests can be found today because we are no longer in the first situation of the Covid-19 pandemic,” the DP official said, asking government bodies at least to do as much as neighboring countries do. “Albanian institutions have shown that they are not interested in publishing real figures. We have information that the number of people affected by coronavirus is more than stated,”declared Spahia.
In a FB post on Wednesday Dr. Erion Dasho said that the daily number of C19 infected people varies from 500 to 1,000 and raised the alarm that the situation is out of control in this Balkan country. /argumentum.al
