TIRANA – President Ilir Meta has considered as alarming the situation created by the coronavirus disease in Albania where the death toll and number of infections are rising frightfully plunging this Balkan country into a grave health crisis.

In this frame the President called on the government to take all necessary measures without delay, while urging citizens to be conscientious in implementing public instructions in a message released on Wednesday.

“I strongly reiterate the call to the government to increase the budget of the health sector and to take without delay all measures to increase the facilities of intensive care, for more equipment and everything necessary for the treatment of those affected,” said Meta.

There were 139 new cases affected by COVID – 19, while 6 patients lost their lives, bringing to 182 the total number of the fatalities on Wednesday.

While expressing his condolences to those who have lost family members because of the COVID- 19, President Meta stressed that qualified human and scientific personalities, especially those with experience in the field of epidemiology and hygiene, who are out of the active health service, can be mobilized.

Asking citizens to respect the preventive measures, he said it is very important, especially in the conditions when we are at the peak of the tourist season, to show maximum responsibility and cooperation. /argumentum.al
