TIRANA – “As never before, the traffic of vehicles waiting to cross to Greece has gone as far as Jorgucat, approximately 10 km from Kakavija border checkpoint,” BalkanWeb said on Friday.
Journalist Brikena Metaj referring to relevant unamed sources reported that the delays at the Albanian- Greek checkpoint at Kakavija, southern Albania, are due to the work of the Health Services located at the Greek side not because of the Greek police or customs.
Since Thursday to date, the queue of vehicles of citizens who want to cross the Kakavija Border checkpoint from Albania to Greece is several kilometers long. In addition to closing the border at night, the reason for the traffic is the delay of crossing procedures by the Greek side that makes C19 tests on all travellers.
Meanwhile, there are employees and counters on standby at the Albanian side of the border but they cannot accept more citizens because the Greek side works slowly, it is reported.
Such a chaos at Albania’s border checkpoints with Greece have been frequent the more so in the circumstances of the deadly coronavirus pandemic when all countries try to prevent ‘import’ of COVID-19 from other countries./argumentum.al
