5 Fatalities, 156 C19 Infected People Reported on Saturday

TIRANA – There is a growth of cases of people infected with Covid 19 in Albania where 5 fatalities and 156 new cases were registered during the last 24 hours. According to the update of the Health Ministry on Saturday, the victims are a 47-year-old from Shkodra, a 53-year-old from Fier, a 57-year-old from Lezha, a 78-year-old from Kukes, and a 78-year-old from Elbasan.
“The total number of lost lives stands at 245.Tirana is the area with the most new cases,” said the medical bulletin.
Further on the bulletin said the epidemiological situation in Albania appeared stable in the last week. According to weekly data, it turns out that the average of daily C19 cases is 145.
“During this week, the increase of tests based on epidemiological tracking and investigation has continued. As you are aware, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has also licensed non-public entities for testing,” noted the release.
In the meantime 141 confirmed patients positive with COVID-19 are being currently treated at the Infectious Diseases and “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospitals out of whom 20 are in intensive therapy and 9 intubated.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection calls on citizens not to reduce vigilance for any moment.
The head of epidemiology at the Institute of Public Health (IPH), Silva Bino, said in an interview with “News24″ TV on Saturday that the coronavirus has not changed its virulence and continues to be just as dangerous as in the beginning.
The IPH specialist stressed that there is still a dense circulation of the virus, mainly in large cities such as Tirana, Durres, etc., adding that young people aged 25-40 are now endangered, where women are most affected.
Bino said a plan is being framed to provide 400,000 flu vaccines for risked groups starting in September.
Regarding the coronavirus vaccine, she said, “There are several vaccines in their different stages of testing. The Balkan countries are small and of course the big countries are the first to provide the doses. But all options are being considered to have an effective and safe vaccine,” said Bino in the first official reference on the issue of coronavirus vaccine for Albanians. /argumentum.al
