In a rare united voice Albania’s highest officials of the entire political spectrum have applauded the US mediated accord on economic ties between Kosovo and Serbia, which also included Kosovo recognizing Israel and Serbia relocating its embassy to Jerusalem, signed at the White House on Friday.
“I welcome the signing of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, negotiated under the leadership of the United States of America and President Trump!” said President Ilir Meta, who saw in it service to peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
”An important step towards the full normalization of relations between the two countries, in the service of peace and stability in our region,” said Meta in his statement.
In the meantime the congratulation message of PM Edi Rama under the headline “No Betrayal Men!” to Kosovo Prime Minister Abdullah Hoti for the agreement reached with Serbia said it is not the end but the continuation of the only path to final recognition. “Dialogue for everything, cooperation for what you can do today, persistence for what you need tomorrow!” said Rama in his statement.
He took this opportunity to express his regret for so much time lost to agree on the Regional Schengen, which he called an ambitious project of national development interest through the increase of cooperation, and as one more impetus for the European integration of the regional countries. He extended thanks to friendly America.
Further on Rama said that the recognition of Kosovo by Israel is the fantastic fruit of this agreement with great development potential, but also an example for all that the fight for the final peace with Serbia is not done either with virtual swords against Belgrade, or with digital stigma of imaginary traitors!
The head of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha said in his statement that personally and on behalf of the Democratic Party he welcomed the agreement reached between the delegations of Kosovo and Serbia in the White House.
“A special thanks to President Trump and the United States for their attention and commitment to Kosovo and the Balkans. I express my hope and belief that this agreement will be an important step towards the normalization of relations and mutual recognition between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, thus contributing to peace, stability and Euro-Atlantic integration of the region,”said Basha, who is also head of the united opposition extra-parliamentary forces in Albania. //argumentum.al
